Ex-MP Golam Maula Rony’s illegal establishment demolished

The local administration in Patuakhali has demolished the illegal establishment of former Patuakhali-3 constituency lawmaker Golam Maula Rony.

During the drive, at least 15 unlawful structures including that of Rony have been demolished for unlawful construction on government land.

Senior assistant secretary of the district administration and executive magistrate Abdul Qaium led the drive on Tuesday at Ulania Bandar bazar under Golachipa upazila in the district.

The upazila administration said, the former MP Rony took a lease of some lands for one year tenure. However, despite there no rules legalizing the establishment of concrete structures on government land, Rony built a two-story building there.

The district administration issued notices in 2013, 2018 and this year asking the lawmaker to remove illegal establishments. But he was yet to abide by the law.

Many people including the former ruling party lawmaker built an illegal establishment at Ulania Bandar. Five percent of land in the market is occupied by the MP. Not only him, but there are also a minimum 15 illegal occupiers in that bazar. All of them illegally possess a total of 30 percent of land, said Golachipa Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashish Kumar.
