11 tourists killed after train hits microbus in Chattogram

At least 11 people have been killed after a train hit a microbus at a level crossing in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram.

The identities of the deceased couldn’t be known immediately. But it is likely that all of them were tourists heading towards Khaiachara waterfall in Mirsharai, said police.

Kabir Hossain, officer-in-Charge of Mirsharai police station, confirmed the deaths.

Police said the incident occurred around 1.30pm on Friday at the unmanned level crossing near Bara Takia station of the upazila.

Anisur Rahman, deputy director of Chittagong Divisional Office of Fire Service, said: “The firefighters recovered the bodies of the deceased from the scene. The injured were rescued and sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.”

Witnesses said Chattogram-bound Mahanagar Provati express rammed into the microbus, dragging it several hundred metres down the railway.
