The UN will also help the Rohingyas in Bhasanchar like in Cox’s Bazar

The Government of Bangladesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations to provide humanitarian assistance to the displaced Myanmar nationals (Rohingya) in Bhasanchar.

On behalf of Bangladesh government, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md. Mohsin and Johannes von der Clao, UNHCR Representative in Bangladesh, signed the agreement at the secretariat  on Saturday.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md. Enamur Rahman was the chief guest. Special guest was AB Tajul Islam, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Disaster Management and Relief.

The Minister of State for Disaster Management and Relief said the UN was coming to the aid of Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar. We are grateful to them. We have relocated the Rohingyas to Bhasanchar. Various NGOs are meeting the needs of the Rohingyas there.The UN has made a good decision at the right time. I think it will help the Bangladesh government in Bhasanchar to continue providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya. It is a great relief for us.

The Secretary for Disaster Management and Relief said humanitarian assistance would be conducted in Bhasanchar under the supervision of the civil administration. A joint venture between the Government of Bangladesh and UNHCR will provide non-formal education and livelihoods to FDMNs in the form of food and nutrition, potable water, sanitation, medicine, Myanmar curriculum and language.

The representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Bangladesh said the MoU was set up to provide humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya on the island (Bhasanchar). In Bhasanchar, as in Cox’s Bazar, the UN will work to meet the urgent needs of the Rohingya.

Foreign Affairs, Public Security Department, NSI and UN Resident Coordinator (Interim) Bangladesh Tomu Patianen, WFP Country Director Richard Reagan and representatives of relevant agencies were present.
