Bangabandhu Cup Int’l Kabaddi begins today

The 2nd Bangabandhu Cup International Kabaddi tournament begins from today (Saturday) at Shaheed Noor Hossain National Volleyball Stadium in the city with three matches are billed for the opening day.

Prime Minister’s adviser on private industry and investment Salman F Rahman, MP, is expected to inaugurate the meet as the chief guest at 5 pm while Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General and Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation’s (BKF) president Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun will preside over the opening ceremony.

On the first day of the tournament, defending champions Bangladesh take on England in the first match at 5 pm, SriLanka face Malaysia in the second match at 6.30 pm while defending runners-up Kenya face Iraq in the third match of opening day’s fixture at 7.30 pm.

Meanwhile, the trophy of 2nd Bangabandhu Cup International Kabaddi tournament formally unveiled yesterday (Friday) through a fabulous ceremony in the city’s local hotel.

Tournament committee’s member secretary and BKF’s general secretary and Deputy Inspector General of Dhaka Range Habibur Rahman formally unveiled the trophy of the tournament in presence of eight participating countries.

Organised by BKF, a total of eight countries, split into two groups, are taking part in the prestigious six-day tournament which is being held marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The participating countries:

Group A – Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and England
Group B- Kenya, Nepal, Indonesia and Iraq.
