BCL faction blockades CU entrance, shuttle train driver kidnapped
A faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has been blockading the entrance of Chittagong University (CU) prompting the authority to suspend classes and examinations. Besides, the blockade also disrupted vehicular movement apart from the shuttle train.
Allegations have been raised against the protesters to kidnap one of the drivers of the shuttle train.
Railway east director general Md. Jahangir Alam said, “Unidentified miscreants kidnapped one of the shuttle train drivers. So, we suspended the service. Kidnapping the driver is very heinous.”
On Sunday night, the BCL central body declared the full committee of the CU unit which erupted in anger among the leaders and activists who failed to achieve their desired posts. The anger spread across the campus last night. The agitators started vandalism, and attacked a BCL leader.
The protesters demanded the ouster of the BCL’s general secretary at CU. Besides, they also pressed home formulation of a fresh committee alleging that there are controversies regarding many leaders who were posted to the full committee.
They also vowed to continue the movement until their demands are met.
“BCL leaders who missed position in the full committee, have been blockading the campus since last night. We are trying to talk to them to bring the situation under control. As they have political demands, we are unable to meet,” CU proctor Shahidul Islam told the media.
