Shoot-out in Bhola exposed how govt intends to stem movement: Mirza Fakhrul

By opening fire on the peaceful program, this fascist government revealed its intention to stem movement through torture, said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir while taking part in the Namaz-e-Janaza of BNP activist Abdur Rahim who has been gunned down by police in Bhola.

The prayer was offered in front of the BNP central office at Nayapaltan in the capital on Monday.

Abdur Rahmi was shot dead after the BNP leaders and activists locked in an altercation with the law enforcers on Sunday at the Mohajonpotti area in Bhola as the party staged a rally demanding the price of electricity and daily commodities to bring under control. The clashes left dozens of people from both sides injured.

“Our brothers bled in Bhola. This was a peaceful program. Police opened fire on the peaceful rally. We won’t let Abdur Rahim’s blood down. We have to defeat this government with more enthusiasm being imbued with the sacrifice of our brother,” the BNP secretary general said.

“The bloodshed proves that the countrymen don’t fear of the government’s tyranny and torture. People of this country must restore democracy by giving blood and life,” Fakhrul furthered.

The party standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Nazrul Islam Khan, vice-chairman Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon, publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury, BNP chairperson’s adviser Amanullah Aman and Abdus Salam, Gazipur district BNP president Fazlul Haque Milon, Nagorik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Mann, NPP chairman Fariduzzaman Farhad and Lutfur Rahman of Jagpa were present on the occasion among others.
