BCL faction calls off CU blockade

The faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Chattogram University (CU), who were staging demonstrations on the campus after they were deprived of the new committee, has called off their blockade.

The withdrawal announcement came around 11:30 am on Tuesday after getting assurance from the organization’s central leaders, said Sakhawat Hossain, an activist of Bijoy Group of the university unit Chhatra League.

Sakhawat said, “The central leaders have said that selfless and true leaders like us will be evaluated. So we have withdrawn the movement.”

After the withdrawal of the movement, the internal situation of the university became normal. But teachers’ buses and shuttle trains have not run yet.

Earlier, a 376-member full committee was announced at 12:30 am on Monday by the central organisation after three years. After the announcement of the new committee, some deprived BCL men started protesting on the campus keeping the main gate locked.

They called for an indefinite strike demanding a fair committee.

Following the protest, the university’s shuttle train and teachers’ buses were kept stopped. Classes and examinations of some departments were suspended.
