Bangabandhu’s killing was a heinous crime against humanity: Hasan Mahmud
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the assassination of Bangabandhu along with most of his family members was not a mere killing rather it was a heinous crime against humanity.
The minister said this while addressing a discussion organized by his ministry at an auditorium of Tathya Bhaban in the capital.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Md Mokbul Hossain presided over the discussion while additional secretary Khadiza Begum, National Institute of Mass Media director general Shahin Islam, BTV director general Md Soharab Hossain and Department of Films and Publications director general SM Golam Kibria, among others, spoke.
In the beginning, a documentary on Bangabandhu was screened.
Paying rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs of August 15, Hasan said Ziaur Rahman was one of the main kingpins of the brutal killing. Khandakar Mostaq made Zia as the chief of army, he said, adding even, Zia enacted the indemnity ordinance after the killing.
Later, he (Zia) rehabilitated the killers through posting them abroad as ambassadors, he added.
He said journalists and different groups placed a demand to form a commission to unveil the main masterminds and planners including Ziaur Rahman. “I also personally agree with it. The law minister has declared that a commission will be formed,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
About inflation, the minister said it is normal that the mass media would cover reports over inflation. But everyone should also present the current global situation, then the common people would get the proper scenario, he added.
He said the inflation in Australia is 9.2 percent while it is 9.6 percent in the European Union, 8.5 percent in the USA and 9.4 percent in the UK. But the inflation was less than 7 percent in the country till May and later it was increased to 7.5 percent, he added.
The minister said the inflation in the country is lower than many countries though it is not comfortable. The government is trying to reduce it, said Hasan.
The minister urged all including the employees of his ministry to present and inform real situation to the countrymen.
