Former Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder passes away

Former Election Commissioner (EC) Mahbub Talukder passed away. He died at 1 pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in the capital.

Mahbub Talukder’s daughter Irene Mahbub confirmed this to the media.

Mahbub Talukder was recently admitted to the hospital with various serious non-communicable diseases.

It is known that his ticket to Chennai was booked on July 16, but it was canceled as his physical condition was not fit for travel. Attempts were being made to finally take him to Chennai by air ambulance.

He was undergoing treatment under Taimur Nawaz a professor of medicine at the United Hospital.

Mahbub Talukder was engaged in journalism at Daily Ittefaq at the beginning of his career. Later, he taught in the then Jagannath College, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Architecture in the Department of Architecture and Chittagong University in the Bengali Department.

In 1971 he participated in the Liberation War and joined the Ministry of Information of Mujibnagar Government. Later, he served in various positions during his stay in Bangavabhan for 5 years as a continuation of government service.

On January 24, 1972, he was appointed as a special officer of President Abu Saeed Chowdhury. He then served as President Mohammadullah’s Public Relations Officer. During Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s tenure, he served as his assistant press secretary. He also served as Director General of Shilpakala Academy. From serving as Additional Secretary in 1999, he held various ministries and organizations until his retirement.

On 15 February 2017, Mahbub Talukder was appointed by President Abdul Hamid as a member of the five-member Bangladesh Election Commission headed by KM Nurul Huda.
