No plan to change class timings: Dipu Moni

Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni has said that there is no plan to change the class time of educational institutions even if the holidays are increased to save electricity.

She came up with the remark while speaking to a discussion meeting with the Education Reporters Association of Bangladesh (EBER), an organization of education-related journalists, at the Ministry of Education on Monday.

Government office hours have been temporarily changed to save energy and electricity in the country. However, there is no plan to change the class timings of the educational institutions, the minister said.

Regarding the new school-college holidays on Friday-Saturday she said, many working parents are not at home on Thursday so students’ holiday is not useful. Therefore Thursday proposal has been canceled and made Friday-Saturday.

Mentioning the suicide of the Holycross student, the Education Minister said, the matter is not yet clear. It will be clear when the investigation report is available. The student may decide to commit suicide due to family and social pressure as she fails in three subjects.

Dipu Moni said that at least two teachers will be made experienced for counseling in all educational institutions to reduce the tendency of students to commit suicide. For this purpose, about two lakh teachers are being trained across the country.
