Explosions in Kabul and Jalalabad: At least 6 killed, 30 injured

A series of bomb blasts have killed at least seven people in the Afghan capital, Kabul, and in the eastern city of Jalalabad. Another 30 people were injured in the incident. Al Jazeera reported on Sunday (September 18th), citing Taliban sources.

The report said, A Taliban source said, the Khorasan branch of the militant group Islamic State (IS) may have been behind the attacks in Jalalabad and Kabul. Several suspects were arrested from Jalalabad shortly after the attack.

Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar, the heartland of Afghanistan’s Islamic State group, which claimed responsibility for a bloody attack that killed more than 100 people at Kabul airport at the end of August.
Pictures taken at the site of the blast showed a green pick-up truck with a white Taliban flag surrounded by debris as armed fighters looked on.

The attacks are the first deadly blasts since the US completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan. After taking power, the Taliban had promised to restore peace and stability in the region and not to shelter any militant organisations.
