The Rohingyas left Cox’s Bazar for Bhashan Char in four naval ships and reached the island around 5pm, said Lieutenant Hashem, in-charge of Bhasan Char Rohingya Camp.

After medical tests, they were relocated to clusters 88, 89 and 90.

Bangladesh is currently hosting over 1.1 million Rohingyas in camps in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char, with the largest influx entering the country from Myanmar soon after the August 2017 crackdown on the monirities from Rakhine state.

The government has since been trying to ensure a safe and successful repatriation of the displaced people.

In her UNGA speech last month, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sought help of the United Nations and global leaders for a permanent solution to the Rohingya crisis through their safe, sustainable, and dignified return to Myanmar.
