Cyclone ‘Sitrang’ will cross Bangladesh coast by tomorrow morning: Enamur

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman today said that the cyclone ‘Sitrang’ is likely to hit Bangladesh coast by this evening and will cross the coast between 6am and 7am tomorrow.

“The cyclone will lash in land in the country’s coast this evening. It will cross the country’s coast between 6am and 7am tomorrow since its center will hit Barguna sadar and Patharghata, and Kolapara of Pathuakhali,” he said at a briefing at the Secretariat here.

The cyclone will hit badly 13 coastal districts– Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, the state minister said, adding that Barguna sadar and Patharghata, and Kolapara of Pathuakhali will be the worst-affected districts.

Enamur said the cyclone will hit Bangladesh only and there is no possibility to hit India.

Since the cyclone is likely to hit most of the places of Chattogram, Khulna and Baishal, he said their offshore islands, especially Maheshkhali and Swandip, are in vulnerable state.

The state minister said that directives have been given to evacuate people from those vulnerable areas.

Secretary of the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Md Kamrul Hasan, Additional Secretary Rawshan Ara Begum, Director General of Department of Disaster Management  Md Atiqul Haque and Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) Director Ahmadul Haque were present on the occasion.
