Jubo League’s 50th founding anniversary observed

The 50th founding anniversary of Awami Jubo League, an associate body of the ruling Awami League (AL), was observed today amid festivity and enthusiasm through various programmes across the country.

Bangladesh Awami Jubo League commonly known as Jubo League is the first youth organisation of Bangladesh founded by Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani under the direction of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through a youth convention at the Institution of Engineers on November 11, 1972.

The organisation was established with the aim of involving the youths in the struggle for a non-communal, democratic and exploitation-free Bangladesh.

Nowadays, Jubo League has become the largest youth organisation in the country through the long struggle and sacrifices of thousands of leaders and workers for over four decades.

Marking the day, Awami Jubo League arranged a youth grand rally in the city’s historic Suhrawardy Udyan that started around 2:30pm.

Awami League (AL) President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the grand rally as the chief guest.

The venue turned into a human see as the Jubo League leaders and activists turned up in thousands since morning with colourful festoons, placards, national and party flags, portraits and pictures of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani.

Jubo League men were seen in thousands in the open places, including the Ramna Park and roads surrounding the venue.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Awami League Advisory Council Member and spokesman for the Awami League-led 14-party alliance Amir Hossain Amu MP, Presidium Members of Awami League – Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim MP, Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, senior AL leaders and former Jubo League Chairmen, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash presided over the grand rally while Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil moderated it.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh, former Jubo League General Secretaries – Mirza Azam and Harunuru Rashid, were present on the dais, among others.

Senior AL leaders, central, district and city Jubo League leaders and activists and eminent cultural personalities were also present at the meeting.

Upon her arrival at the venue, the Prime Minister was received with a wreath by the Chairman and General Secretary of the Jubo League.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the golden jubilee anniversary grand rally of the Jubo League by releasing pigeons and balloons.

She was later given a crest and two separate paintings of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as well as uttorio (stole).

The Prime Minister also unveiled the cover of a special publication and opened the formal logo and website of the Jubo League marking its 50th anniversary.

A one-minute silence was observed in respect to the memory of the martyrs of August 15, 1975 and August 21, 2004 alongside martyrs of all the democratic and progressive movements at the grand rally.

The anniversary programme started with a colourful cultural programme, where the party leaders and activists were seen waving small national and party flags.
