After BNP rally, bus services resume in Khulna

Bus services in Khulna resumed on Saturday evening after two days of suspension due to a transport workers’ strike.

Khulna District Bus-Minibus Owners’ Association on Tuesday announced the strike in protest against what he then termed the operation of three-wheelers on the highways.

Shibli Biswas, executive president of Khulna Motor Bus Owners Association, told an English daily on Saturday that they have decided to run buses on all roads from the evening.

He, however, did not answer the question whether their demands have been fulfilled.

He said if any bus is damaged during any demonstration, no one else gives its compensation but the bus owners face loss. “So, we usually stop the bus operation during such time (BNP’s rally).

Zakir Hossain, general secretary of Khulna Motor Sramik Union, said that they just followed the decision of the bus owners.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of commuters in the Khulna region faced immense suffering on Saturday.

However, BNP leaders and activists started to gather in numbers at the rally venue from Friday morning yesterday.
