People will resist if BNP tries to create anarchy : Hasan Mahmud
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP is trying to create anarchy again in Dhaka city and everywhere in the country, expecting people to resist their all evil attempts.
`We have instructed our party leaders and activists to behave with restraint despite BNP’s provocative speeches’ he said.
The AL joint Secretary said that the grenade attack on the AL rally on August 21, 2004 was sponsored by the-then BNP government.
Dr Hasan said this while replying to a query after attending the 57th Chattogram University (CU) Day function held at Zarultala of the CU campus here.
CU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shirin Akhtar presided over the function while Montasir Mamun, Professor of Bangabandhu chair in CU, read out the keynote paper in the function.
CU acting registrar SM Monirul Hasan gave the welcome address while CU Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Benu Kumar Dey, former vice chancellor Professor Dr Md Alauddin, president of CU Alumni Association and former Principal Secretary Dr Abdul Karim, its general secretary Mahabubul Alam, former CUCSU VPs Mazharul Haque Shah and Nazim Uddin, among others, addressed the function.
NM Ziaul Alam, Senior Secretary of Information and Communication Technology ministry, delivered the speech as the honored guest online.
Dr Hasan said BNP attacked Sheikh Helal MP’s rally and killed several people there, BNP repeatedly bombed on AL meetings, including the public meetings of SM Kibria, Suranjit Sengupta and Ahsan Ullah Master.
Replying to another query over BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul’s statement that ‘BNP cannot be suppressed like Hefazat’, Dr Hasan mentioned that there was not a single explosion in the rallies of BNP when AL was in state power.
`The government has always taken measures so that they can gather in their meetings in a peaceful manner’ Hasan saiid.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said when BNP was in power, AL was not allowed to hold any rally.
`We set up barbed wire fencing on both sides infront of AL central office. We could not go outside that fence’ he added.
Dr Hasan said the activities of the university is not only teaching and awarding degrees, but also to practice knowledge.
“If the reputation of this university spreads globally, then its activities are successful,” he added.
He urged the university authority to prepare an annual calendar for international seminars-symposiums for spreading the reputation of the university.
The minister also requested the CU authority to publish quality journal regularly where research articles will be published.
“If the journal is promoted to international standard, it will increase the importance and prestige of the university. Then the university will be connected with the world,” he said.
The Information Minister also requested the CU authority to open Master’s course of Fine Arts in the university.
Later, Dr Hasan, also the former student of CU, visited Suhrawardy Hall where he stayed while studying at CU. He spent some time in the room where he lived.
