Political speeches banned at Waz-Mahfils

The Parliamentary Committee has directed security forces to ensure that no political campaign or hate speech is addressed at religious gatherings (Waz-Mahfil).

According to the parliamentary committee, the decision to put a ban on hate speeches or politcal addresses was recommended during the committee’s last meeting. A progress report was provided in this regard in the 13th meeting of the committee on Wednesday.

The report reads that all the concerned units have been instructed through the Police Directorate to prevent hateful speech in the name of political or individuals in the upcoming winter.

In Bangladesh, Waz-Mahfils are mostly organized in winter. Keeping this in mind, the parliamentary committee decided to put a ban on political speeches during all religious gatherings.
