BNP likes to go to embassies at night: Hasan Mahmud

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said BNP likes to go to embassies stationed in Dhaka at night instead of going to common people.

“BNP is holding meetings at various embassies at night. They like to go to embassy at night instead of going to common people,” he said.

Hasan said these in a coordination meeting of Chattogram city, north and south district AL at the Circuit House here this evening to make the Prime Minister’s public meeting in Chattogram on December 4 a grand success.

He said BNP encouraged foreigners to make comments about the country’s internal affairs.

Hasan, also Joint Secretary of Awami League (AL), said people are the main strength of AL as it formed government for three consecutive times after getting people’s absolute mandate.

“No foreign force has put us in power and no foreign force will be able to make government changeover in Bangladesh,” he said.

In response to the queries of journalists about recent statements of BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, he said various statements of foreigners have become the headache of BNP, not the government.

Chattogram South District AL President Moslem Uddin Ahmed moderated the meeting while AL presidium member Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, MP, also addressed it.

Hasan said first of all diplomats should follow protocols while speaking about Bangladesh’s internal affairs. The government is not worried about comments of any foreigners, he added.

Noting BNP is extorting money while holding rallies, he said BNP is holding various rallies across the country and they have extorted a lot of money for the rally in Chattogram.

“Many businessmen of Chattogram have complained that BNP extorted money by threatening them. Again in the name of public meeting, they are organising picnics in different places,” Hasan said.

About BNP’s public meeting in Cumilla tomorrow, Hasan said former Cumilla mayor and BNP leader Sakku said his family gave 76 flats to their activists.

“First of all, it is a big question how he became the owner of 76 flats. They are organizing a picnic there by bringing the leaders and activists from different places of the country,” he said.

The AL joint secretary said people know that AL’s public meeting in Jashore turned into a human sea.

“The crowd spread far beyond the stadium. Chattogram public meeting will also spread far beyond the polo ground. A huge number of people will gather on December 4. We are sitting here today to make that rally successful,” he added.
