Foreign Minister wants China to play important roles to mitigate crises in the world
Foreign Minister of Bangladesh AK Abdul Momen talks to Ambassador of China to Bangladesh Yao Wen, when the Ambassador called on Momen at his office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Wednesday 5th July. During the meeting, Foreign Minister praised the recent Chinese diplomatic efforts that played positive roles in the Middle East.
He is hopeful that China would continue to play important roles to mitigate other crises in different parts of the world, “including ours.” According to the foreign ministry, he reiterated that Bangladesh’s commitments for further enhancing the ‘South-South Cooperation’ for greater collective benefit of the global South.
He mentioned the innovative approaches including Community Clinics introduced in Bangladesh by the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which is now internationally admired.
The Minister observed that Bangladesh, as a developing country could apply many practical, and viable Chinese innovations for the benefit of the common people. He pointed out the success of Bangladesh in management of the Covid-19 pandemic and praised China for supporting significantly in this sector.
He has given emphasize on the inflationary pressure and other economic crisis inflicted by the undesired Russia-Ukraine war on the lives of the common people, particularly those in the developing countries. He expressed his hope that the war would be brought to an immediate end through dialogue and peaceful diplomatic engagements.
The Chinese envoy updated about different development projects in Bangladesh that are being implemented with the assistance from China.
The Foreign Minister thanked China as a trusted development partner and hoped that the ongoing bilateral engagements would be further strengthened. He encouraged broader Chinese investment in Bangladesh to facilitate more job-creation and technology transfer.
The Minister and the Envoy exchanged views on climate change, the issues of monsoon and its impacts on possible flood situation in Bangladesh, particularly the problems of flash-floods. The Chinese envoy assures to extend assistance for dredging the relevant rivers in Bangladesh to improve the capacity of the rivers for the better management of the flood situation.
The Foreign Minister acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of China under the trilateral framework for facilitating the desired repatriation of the Rohingyas to their homeland in the Rakhine State of Myanmar, as they are temporarily sheltered in Bangladesh on humanitarian ground.
The Minister and the Chinese envoy also reviewed the ongoing bilateral cooperation in various multilateral and international forums.
