Foreign Minister seeks ICRC cooperation on Rohingya repatriation

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Monday 10th July seeks cooperation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in ensuring a safe, sustainable and dignified return of Rohingyas to their country of origin, Myanmar.

While newly appointed ICRC Head of Delegation in Bangladesh Agnès Dhur presented her credential to the Minister at his foreign ministry office in Dhaka, he sought the cooperation.

The foreign minister applauded ICRC’s role during the Covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh at the meeting.

Mentioning Bangladesh’s peace-centric foreign policy, Momen recalls that ICRC is a credible international organization, underscored the need for collective efforts in working for peace and stability across the globe. He also recalls and appreciated the ICRC that provided humanitarian assistance to the people of Bangladesh and supported during the Liberation war in 1971.

He assured ICRC delegation head to offer Bangladesh government’s full support in performing her duties during her assignment in Bangladesh.

The ICRC Delegation head briefed the foreign minister their activities in Bangladesh, including prison condition improvement, water and sanitation.

Agnès Dhur expressed her wish to further strengthen cooperation between Bangladesh and the ICRC in the coming years.
