Newly-elected Member of Parliament Mohammad Ali Arafat takes oath

Mohammad Ali Arafat, newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) from the Dhaka-17 constituency took the oath of office at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the capital on Wednesday, July 26.

Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker administered the oath to Arafat, elected in the by-election of Dhaka-17 constituency with the ruling Awami League’s ticket.

Arafat got 28,816 votes, while his closest rival Hero Alom got 5,609 votes. Voter turnout was 11.51 per cent. The Election Commission said the election was held in a free and fair manner.

Parliament Secretariat Senior Secretary KM Abdus Salam conducted the oath-taking ceremony.

According to the custom, after taking the oath, the newly-elected lawmaker Arafat signed the oath book

Among others, Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, Whip Iqbalur Rahim, Awami League Office Secretary Biplob Barua and senior officials were present.
