Massive turnout at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Rangpur rally

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s Rangpur rally witnessed a massive turnout.

Despite the prime minister’s appearance at 3:25pm on Wednesday, Auguist 02 a remarkable rush of participants from different districts of Rangpur division had already joined the rally, with the human wave spreading all over Rangpur city.

The rally started at around 12:30pm and the leaders of various districts of Rangpur division addressed the rally amid light rain.

Since morning, ruling Awami League party leaders and activists actively participated in the rally with colourful banners and engaging in processions.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Rangpur in the afternoon on a daylong visit to attend a number of programs including the grand rally.

On the Prime Minister’s arrival at Rangpur cantonment by a helicopter at 1:13pm, the she was escorted to the Circuit House where she was scheduled to hold a meeting with Rangpur divisional government officials.

She arrived at the Rangpur Zilla School ground around 3pm to join the grand rally that turned into a large gathering with the participation of one million people. The entire Rangpur got a facelift with decoration and lighting and the city roads have also been adorned to welcome the prime minister.

A boat-shaped large stage was built by the workers of Dhaka and Rajshahi to facilitate the accommodation of 300 leaders and activists.

Sheikh Hasina addressed the mammoth public rally at the Rangpur Zilla School venue after around 12 years. A festive mood had been prevailing among the Awami League and its front and associate bodies’ leaders and activists, and common people for a couple of days centering the Prime Minister’s tour to the Rangpur. It is around five years after the Prime Minister visited Pirganj and Taraganj on December 23, 2018.
