Bangladeshi student Fairuz Shafin Munmun killed in Canada road accident

A Bangladeshi student has been killed in a road accident at Calgary in Canada.

Fairuz Shafin Munmun, a third year student of Computer Science at the University of Calgary, was killed after being hit by a car near her university on Thursday morning, reports CityNews Calgary, quoting Calgary police as saying.

The 21-year-old student was killed being struck by a car near the intersection of 24th Avenue and Upper Place N.W., on the southern edge of the university campus, around 8:15a.m.

Investigators say they believe a small hatchback vehicle, driven by a 41-year-old man, was travelling east on 24th Avenue when it struck the student as she was crossing the street. She was taken to Foothills Hospital in life-threatening condition, where she later died.

Police say the driver remained on scene and at the scene, and neither excessive speed nor alcohol are considered factors in the crash.

“The position of the sun in relation to the driver’s view may be a factor in this collision,” police said in a news release. “The pedestrian (Fairuz Shafin Munmun) crossing the road outside of a designated crosswalk is also believed to be a factor.”

Munmun lived with other female students at a rented house near the University of Calgary. Both of her parents are physicians. They live in Dhaka.
