Prime Minister to leave for Saudi Arabia on Sunday

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to Saudi Arabia on Sunday, November 5 to join  the International Women’s Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The conference will be held in Jeddah from November 6 to 8. The prime minister will also perform Umrah, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told reporters at his ministry on Wednesday, November 1. Momen said the prime minister will first visit Madina on November 5. From there, she will join the conference in Jeddah and later travel to Makkah. The prime minister will leave Saudi Arabia for home on November 7.

Sheikh Hasina will meet people during her visit to Saudi Arabia. In between, she is expected to meet with the secretary general of the OIC, vice president of Iran, and the Saudi foreign minister.

In response to a question, the foreign minister said, “We hope that the Gaza issue will be raised at the Saudi conference. Our position on this is very clear. We have taken a vocal stand on the fact that humanity is being oppressed in Gaza.” In a press conference on Oct 31, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reiterated her unequivocal support for Palestine in the face of escalating Israeli aggression.

Bangladesh has called upon the global community to condemn Israel’s brutal actions and emphasised the urgent need to end the conflict to prevent further casualties and the sufferings of innocent civilians.
