AL leader threatening US envoy will face disciplinary action: Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said steps will be taken against the person involved in threatening US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas.

He made the remark while speaking to journalists at Ganabhaban gate in Dhaka  on Thursday night after holding the party’s central executive committee meeting with the party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Terming Chittagong’s Banshkhali upazila’s Chambol union chairman and Union Awami League convener Mujibul Huque Chowdhury’s threat to Ambassador Peter Haas “beyond civility,”

Quader said, “Our attention has been drawn to the “indecent and uncourteous remarks” on the US Ambassador which are now being publicised on social media. We will take disciplinary action against Chittagong’s Banshkhali upazila’s Chambol union chairman Mujibul Huque Chowdhury for breaking the party’s disciplines. He should not have done discourteous behaviour.”

The AL general secretary said, “Discourteous remarks against a respected person — whether is a diplomat or any other person — are undesirable. The party president has directed the leaders and workers at all level to refrain from making such remarks in future.”

Quader said the nomination seekers could buy the party nomination forms from the party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka after the announcement of the next general election schedule.

“The price of one nomination form is Tk 50,000,” he said. “It can also be collected from and deposited to online.”

Quader also said that AL advisory committee, central executive committee and presidents and secretaries of Dhaka City unit AL would also work in the election management committee.
