Tigresses out to beat Pakistan for 1st victory in World Cup
Bangladesh are expecting to pick up their first victory in their first ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup when they take on subcontinent rivals Pakistan tomorrow (Monday) at Seddon Park, Hamilton in New Zealand.
The match starts at 4 AM as per Bangladesh Standard Time.
Bangladesh remained winless so far after being defeated to South Africa by 32 runs and hosts New Zealand by nine wickets but the recent record against Pakistan made them optimistic about a historic victory.
In the last five encounters between the two teams, Bangladesh won three matches including a victory in the World Cup Qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe.
The Bangladesh, however, conceded a 7-run defeat to Pakistan in the warm-up game of late by D/L method. Pakistan scored 199-7 but for Bangladesh the revised target was set for 202. Bangladesh couldn’t win that match but they were so close and got the belief that they could win against Pakistan in the next time.
Pakistan, however, are languishing at the bottom table after conceding three straight defeats. They will also seek a victory to end their losing streak in the World Cup.
But Bangladesh are brimming with confidence, largely due to their batting performance. Farzana Haque made a delightful half-century in the last match against New Zealand in rain-hit match.
After the game, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana complained that they had to field amid the rain, which made their task difficult. At the same time, the condition of the New Zealand also is giving them a torrid time.
But Bangladesh vowed to overcome all the adversities to beat Pakistan for a historic victory.
