Bangladesh India relationship in ‘golden age’
Bangladesh and India are passing ‘golden age’ in bilateral relationship, newly appointed high commissioner Vikram Kumar Doraiswami said making pledge to strengthen economic ties between two neighbours.
During the maiden meeting with press in Dhaka amid pandemic on Thursday, Vikram Kumar also mentioned Delhi will partner Dhaka first in producing corona vaccine which will ‘affordable for commoners’.
Vikram replaced Riva Ganguly Das, who already returned to New Delhi on October 1 for her next posting at India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as secretary (east). She was appointed as high commissioner of India to Bangladesh in March 2019.
Regarding the much-talked about border killing issue, the seasoned diplomat mentioned that there is ‘no simple solution to the issue’ and the ration will be reduced through continuous talk between forces.
Before being appointed as Dhaka mission chief Vikram served as an additional secretary at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Indian ambassador to the Republic of Korea, and was also posted in Uzbekistan.
He joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1992. Before joining government service, he used to work as a journalist.
Doraiswami has a Masters degree in history from Delhi University. He can converse in Chinese and Urdu, and knows a little bit of French as well, according to Hindustan Times.
His father served in the Indian Air Force during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971 and he had participated in the war.
