Nasrul for research on electric vehicle

State Minister for Power Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid called upon the engineers to research to support the possibilities of electronic vehicle for transportation in the country for reducing fuel consumption.

Addressing a seminar of Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) on Friday, State Minister Nasrul also assured for developing ‘power charging station’ required for electronic vehicle commercially.

Mechanical Engineering department of IEB ogrnised the seminar virtually titled Energy Security of Bangladesh: Issues and Options’ to review the sector.

State Minister Nasrul Hamid mentioned that the power of electronic car engine is almost four times (80 percent) comparing to the traditional petrol run vehicle.

Nasrul said the government has developed sector wise mega plan and technology integration to support urbanization ensuring uninterrupted power supply.

“Demand of power and energy has been increasing simultaneously to the infrastructural development of the country,” he said mentioning the government’s initiative on net metering, micro and macro level automation and attracting.

Nasrul also directed the engineers to formulate a sector wise master plan which is very important for maintaining power supply in accordance to demand.

Brac University Pro-vice chancellor Mohammad Tamim made keynote presentation focusing on mega plan in power sector and future demand and supply.

Among others, Power Cell Director General Mohammad Hossain, GTCL Managing Director Atiquzzaman, IEB President Nurul Huda, Awami League’ science and technology affairs secretary Abdus Sabur spoke in the meeting presided by IEB Mechanical engineering department chair Mohammad Nasir Uddin.
