Mujib Borsho extended
The government has extended the Mujib Borsho marking birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman till December 16, 2021.
Signed by Cabinet Division’s Senior Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam, the government revealed the decision In a gazette notification on Monday.
“The program undertaken to observe Mujib Borsho could not be executed properly and timely due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. So, the government is declaring Mujib Borsho’s duration from March 17, 2020 to December 16, 2021,” the gazette reads.
Earlier this year, the government initiated various programs to be held in Mujib Borsho starting from March 17 to March 26 next year. Countdown for the celebration’s opening had started on January 10, coinciding with Bangabandhu’s homecoming in 1972 from a Pakistan jail after the 1971 Liberation War.
The year-long countrywide celebrations marking birth centenary of Bangabandhu was launched on March 17 stunning fireworks display at the Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka. However, the programs planned on this occasion was first scaled down and gradually postponed, owing to the worsening coronavirus crisis.
