REMIMIS was introduced to store the information of the returnees

Farhana Nila:  Although there is an account of workers going abroad, the government does not have an account of their return. So the exact number of expatriate workers is not known. Returning staff could not be identified. Finally, a digital platform called ‘Returning Migrants Management of Information System (REMIS)’ was launched to collect, analyze and store information of returning migrants.

The platform was inaugurated by Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed at a function held at the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) building here on Monday. The platform has been built under the expectation project funded by the European Union. The project is led by the Government of Bangladesh and is being implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

According to IOM, REMIMIS is a web-based application. From these remittances, partners will be able to easily get information on the skills of expatriates and spread the skills of expatriates in the community or in different sectors as per the demand.

These data will help policymakers understand the risks and needs of returnees on the one hand, and create specific and evidence-based security measures on the other. As a result, it will be easier to re-employ the expatriates who have returned to the country for various reasons.

REMIMIS will oversee the platform BMET. To record the information of expatriates BMET will work closely with the Union Digital Center (UDC) and the District Employment and Manpower (Demo) Office.
