Bangladesh begins vaccination drive
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened the nationwide vaccination campaign to tackle corona virus disease with a nurse and four officials being first recipients of the shots as frontline workers.
Kurmitola General Hospital (KGH) nurse Runu Veronica Costa became the first to receive the shot, virtually witnessed by the premier from Ganabhaban on Wednesday as corona inoculate consignments started reaching Bangladesh.
“You are not frightened, are you?” Sheikh Hasina said as a medical official prepared to inject her the inoculate at the state-run health facility which was one of the first designated COVID hospitals in the country.
Renu in response showed a negative gesture earning the premier’s appreciation who commented “a brave girl”.
“Many greetings to you, stay healthy and serve many more patients,” Sheikh Hasina said.
Four others immediately followed Renu’s footstep who were KGH director Dr Ahmed Lutful Moben, additional director general of health services (DGHS) Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, a traffic police sergeant Md Didarul Islam and army Brigadier General M Imran Hamid.
