Actress Pori Moni released from jail on bail in drugs case
Dhallywood actress Pori Moni was released from the Women’s Central Jail in Kashimpur, Gazipur on Wednesday morning, a day after she secured bail in a drugs case.
The actress came out of Kashimpur Women’s Central Jail around 9:20am after securing interim bail from a Dhaka court. She was released in her lawyer Niranjana Shurovy’s custody, in presence of her uncle Jashim Uddin, said the jail’s Superintendent Halima Khatun.
Earlier in on Tuesday, A Dhaka Court considering Pori Moni’s health, age and reputation in Film industry granted interim bail to her in a case filed with Banani Thana under Narcotics Control Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge KM Emrul Kayes passed the bail order upon a bond of Tk 50,000 after hearing on her bail petition.
Pori Moni’s fans had crowded the jail gate to catch a glimpse of her walking out of prison after nearly a month. She left in a white SUV, waving at the fans through the sunroof. She did not speak to the journalists present at the scene.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Pori Moni on August 4 from her Banani flat in Dhaka and seized huge amounts of foreign liquors and different drugs from there.
A minibar was found at Pori Moni’s residence where she regularly arranged parties, RAB said.
RAB brought drugs-related charges against Pori Moni and her aide Dipu in the case filed with Banani police station on August 6.
