Child Rights Week is starting on World Children’s Day

The government is going to celebrate World Children’s Day like every year. The day is celebrated at different times in different countries of the world. The day is celebrated on the first Monday of October in Bangladesh. World Children’s Day will be observed across the country on Monday (October 4) under the theme ‘Invest for Children, Build a Prosperous World’.

At the same time, Child Rights Week will be observed from today till October 10 with the aim of making everyone involved in child rights, protection and development of children more enterprising and aware.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has undertaken various programs across the country on the occasion of Children’s Day and Children’s Week. On the occasion of the day, the President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave a separate message.

Children are the future of the nation. They will lead the society and the state in the coming days. Enrich in knowledge and technology will build a new world that is beneficial for all. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamed of building a prosperous Bangladesh for children. The Father of the Nation guaranteed the rights of children in the 1972 constitution. In 1974, 15 years before the United Nations declared the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1979, he enacted the Children’s Act to protect the rights of children. He took various beneficial steps for the education, protection and development of children in the newly independent country.

In that continuity, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been adopting and implementing various laws, policies and action plans for the establishment of children’s education, nutrition, protection and rights. The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs is working tirelessly to establish children’s rights and create a child-friendly environment.

Bangladesh Shishu Academy, UNICEF, local and international development organizations have taken various programs on the occasion of World Children’s Day and Child Rights Week. These include painting competitions with the participation of children, cultural programs and awareness meetings, discussion meetings and painting competitions with disadvantaged and street children, cultural programs for children with special needs, webinars titled ‘Invest in Early Childhood’ and prevention of drowning in Bangladesh.

Among the various events are child development, prevention of child marriage, protection and rights campaigns, national level policy dialogue sessions, debate competitions. Children’s organizers, children’s experts, children’s writers and cultural figures will be present at the discussion and exchange of views. These programs will be broadcast live and in a virtual manner.

World Children’s Day programs and talk shows will be broadcast on Bangladesh Television and various private televisions including Radio in Bangladesh. Special supplements and memoirs will be published and a photo exhibition will be organized. Besides, posters, PVC and festoon-banners will be put up to decorate various buildings and main roads of Dhaka. World Children’s Day and Child Rights Week will be celebrated in all districts and upazilas of the country.

Various government ministries, departments and local government bodies are collaborating with the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs to celebrate World Children’s Day and Children’s Rights Week. International and national development organizations are include UNICEF, Child Rights Forum, National Girl Child Advocacy Forum, Bangladesh ECD Network, SOS Children’s Village, World Vision, Save the Children, Plan International, Dhaka Ahsania Mission, Jago Foundation, Jago Foundation, Jago Foundation, Various children’s organizations and organizations including Educo Bangladesh, Shaplanir, TDH Netherlands, National Disability Forum.
