Advocacy is not for those who do not respect the interests and laws of the country: Information Minister in the context of Cleanfeed

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr.Hasan Mahmud said, “In the interest of the country, in the interest of the people, in the interest of all in the country’s media industry, we are working to implement ad-free broadcasting or cleanfeed of foreign channels in accordance with the law.” So it is never desirable for anyone to take a stand against the interests of the country and everyone or for someone to advocate for them.

Hasan Mahmud said this On Monday afternoon after  meeting with the representatives of the Association of Television Channel Owners-Atco, an association of owners of the country’s television channels who  came to thank the Minister for the steps taken to implement Cleanfeed.

Secretary of the Ministry Md. Maqbool Hossain was present at that time. ATCO President Anjan Chowdhury, Senior Vice President Mozammel Haque Babu, DBC24 Channel Chairman Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Samay Television Managing Director Ahmed Jobayer, Dipta Television Managing Director Kazi Zahidul Hasan, Desh Television Deputy Managing Director Arif Hasan, DBC24 Channel Chief Editor Islam Pramukha  joined the meeting.

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting thanked all the media, artists and artisans of the country for their unwavering support for the law and said, It was said that we will implement this law from the 1st of October. But there has been an attempt to create confusion from a group. I hope they refrain from spreading this confusion. The government is determined to implement the law and we would never have been able to do this without the courage of the Prime Minister. ”

“The sky of Bangladesh is open, no channel has been closed by the government in Bangladesh, nor has it been asked to close,” he said. “Our country’s channels can broadcast good programs and many do,” Hassan said.

I think it is not appropriate to advocate for those foreign channels that do not care about our law, show their thumbs up to our law, turn a blind eye to our culture. Of course, our doors are open to all channels. But that channel has to be broadcast by protecting the interests of the country in compliance with the law.

Addressing the distributors and cable operators of foreign channels, the minister said that all the foreign channels that provide clean feed in Bangladesh are run by Akash DTH. If others do not run these, the license will be violated. So no one will do the breach.

The foreign minister also said that foreign channels send clean feed to Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. And the huge investment and technical benefits required to send Cleanfeed are part of a misguided attempt to spread the word. Now with digital technology these can be done easily and the respective channels can do it. This is the responsibility of the concerned channel first, and secondly of those who have obtained permission to dowlink that channel.

They have taken permission to downlink all these channels in the interest of doing business and have mentioned the terms of Cleanfeed at the time of licensing.

Cable operators have also obtained licenses subject to that condition. And not that no one in Bangladesh wants a cable operator’s license without them. We have received many cable operator license applications. We are testing them. So if they break the law, break the conditions or spread confusion, action will be taken against them according to the law. ‘

“We have decided with all parties, including cable operators, to digitize the cable operating system in Dhaka and Chittagong from November 1,” he said.

I hope everyone will try to follow this deadline. I hope everyone will highlight the interests of the country and the rule of law.

Information Secretary Md. Maqbool Hossain said, “I have held video conferencing with the deputy commissioners of all the districts of the country. The government is ready to implement the Cleanfeed Act.”

At the meeting, ATCO President Anjan Chowdhury said, “Cleanfeed is our life’s demand.” Although a law was enacted in 2006 to implement it, it could not be implemented. Everyone has to think about what is good for the country. There is the issue of cleanfeed all over the world. As a result, a lot of money has left the country. Now not only the television owners will benefit, the whole country will benefit.

Earlier, DBC24 channel chairman Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said cable operators were instructed that all channels had cleanfeed and would continue to operate. But by shutting down all the channels, they have given the wrong message to the foreigners.

Mozammel Haque Babu, senior vice-president of ATCO, said there was anarchy in the TRP. An organization was doing TRP without any permission. They would give benefits to some organizations. Thanks also to the Information Minister for the important decision to close it.
