The Rohingya issue has been widely discussed at the UN :PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the Rohingya crisis and its permanent solution have been discussed extensively in the UN General Assembly this time. She hoped that international pressure would continue on Myanmar to repatriate Rohingya.

The Prime Minister said this at a press conference on the occasion of her participation in the 7th session of the UN General Assembly on Monday (October 4) afternoon.

The Prime Minister took part in a press conference by video conference from Ganobhaban. Besides being present at Ganobhaban at that time, the journalists were connected with Ganobhaban in a video conference from the Prime Minister’s Office. Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Ihsanul Karim conducted the press conference.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the issue of Rohingya and its permanent solution was discussed extensively in this session, which I hope will continue the international pressure on Myanmar for the repatriation of Rohingyas.

He said, “I am hopeful that the active participation of the Bangladesh delegation in the 76th Session will strengthen Bangladesh’s position in the Multilateral Forum and expand the field of international cooperation on issues of Bangladesh’s interest.”

The Prime Minister said, “We have held several bilateral meetings during this session.” Taking part in bilateral meetings with governments of different countries and heads of state and representatives of various organizations, I discuss various issues of mutual interest as well as seek the attention and cooperation of the international community in resolving the Rohingya issue.

“I would like to remind the world leaders about the Rohingya crisis that the cause of the Rohingya crisis is in Myanmar and there is a solution in Myanmar,” he said. I urge the international community to take constructive steps in this regard, noting that only a safe, sustainable and dignified repatriation to their homeland in Rakhine State can be a lasting solution to this crisis.

Sheikh Hasina said a high-level meeting on Rohingya issue was held on September 22 jointly organized by the European Union, United Kingdom, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, OIC, Turkey, Indonesia, Gambia and Bangladesh on the sidelines of the General Assembly. I gave the keynote address at that meeting.

The Prime Minister said the Rohingya problem is the creation of Myanmar and there is a solution to it.

The Prime Minister mentioned the proposals for resolving the Rohingya crisis at a press conference on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The proposals raised by the Prime Minister are:

  1. To conduct all activities for this purpose with the highest priority on repatriation.
  2. Finding a lasting solution to the Rohingya problem through repatriation, despite the changing political situation in Myanmar.
  3. ASEAN countries have played an effective role in creating a conducive environment for the repatriation of Rohingya to Myanmar.
  4. Take and implement effective measures and projects to create a conducive environment for the repatriation of UN and development partners to Myanmar.
  5. Collaborate with ICJ and other international organizations in the ongoing process to ensure justice for the violence and ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya.
