The ACC has started an investigation into the corruption of the board of trustees of North South University

North-South University is one of the top private educational institutions in the country, plagued by allegations of corruption, irregularities, arbitrariness and turning into a militant institution. After a press conference and a human chain program, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has finally started an investigation against corruption-irregularities and Azim-Qasim Syndicate of North South University.

ACC Director General (Special Investigation) Saeed Mahmud Khan confirmed the investigation.

Mentioning the first step to protect the North South University from the clutches of irregularities, said the advisor of the Law and Human Rights Foundation Dr. Sufi Sagar Sams said, “Even four months after the complaint was lodged, we have not seen any progress in the investigation of corruption in the North South, including Azim-Qasim. Then on 26th October I did human chain. The ACC has finally started investigation.

ACC Director General (Special Investigation) Saeed Mahmud Khan confirmed the investigation.

“We see this process, albeit belatedly, as an early victory for the Law and Human Rights Protection Foundation in its fight to protect North South University,” he said. Now I am demanding swift punishment of the culprits at the end of the investigation.

Dr. Sufi Sagar Sams added, “I have been informed by the ACC that Deputy Director Faisal will be conducting the investigation as an investigating officer under Syed Iqbal, the director of the Special Investigation Branch.”

Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) received several complaints about the university.

The allegation is that  these two trustees of North South University. Embezzled about Rs 200 crore by purchasing land from Ashalaya Housing Limited for North South University; 21 crore wasted and embezzled by buying luxury cars in 2019; By launching ten sections without the approval of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC), the additional students traded huge sums of money for admission and misappropriated this money in various ways; Former President of the Board of Trustees. The Azim-Qasim Syndicate, including Shahjahan, conspired with each other and illegally embezzled Tk 114 crore from the general fund; Traveling abroad with family members wastes and embezzles crores of rupees from the university; Azim Uddin and MA Kasem Syndicate were accused of embezzling Tk 3.28 crore for seating allowance, embezzling Tk 48 lakh for driving and fuel and embezzling around Tk 4 crore for tuition fees from students in 2019-2020. Besides, MA Qasim and Azim Uddin were blamed for presenting information about the militant involvement of this organization. Evidence of the involvement of alumni and students of North South in various militant attacks in the country has been highlighted.

At the time, they were asked to investigate their movable and immovable property and bank accounts. In the interest of the investigation, the board of trustees of the university demanded their dismissal during the investigation and demanded the formation of a new board of directors.
