Attack on Saudi Airport Injures 10 including 3 Bangladeshis

At least two drone strikes at Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Airport in the Saudi Arabian city of Jazan, near the border with Yemen  have been reported by news agencies, with at least three Bangladeshis among the injured.

The country has a large number of Bangladeshi migrant workers, many of whom are employed at various airports.

The first drone strike at the airport in the southern Saudi city of Zayan took place late Friday night, Reuters news agency quoted the Saudi-led military alliance as saying. The next attack took place on Saturday morning.

A spokesman for the coalition quoted state media in Saudi Arabia as saying that three Bangladeshis, six Saudis and a Sudanese had been injured in the first attack.

Earlier on Wednesday, four workers were wounded after the coalition intercepted an explosives-laden drone targeting the kingdom’s Abha airport, a popular destination for Saudi tourists, state media reported.

There have been a number of attacks against Saudi targets recently, blamed on Huthi forces in Yemen fighting a Saudi-led coalition to reinstate the ousted government there.

On Aug. 31, a drone hit the same airport, wounding eight people and damaging a civilian aircraft.

Nestled in the kingdom’s southwestern mountains, Abha is a popular destination for Saudi tourists.

There were no further details on the latest incident.

Saudi Arabia intervened in the Yemen war on behalf of the internationally recognized government in 2015.

The Iran-allied insurgents have repeatedly targeted the kingdom in cross-border attacks.

In August, the rebels escalated those operations, using drones and missiles.
