17 more die from dengue, 3084 hospitalized in 24hrs
Seventeen more dengue patients died across the country during the last 24 hours till 8:00 am on Monday, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 839 this year. Of the 17 deaths, 10 were reported in the capital.
According to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 3,084 new patients were hospitalized during the time. With the new data, a total of 1,70,768 were infected from the fever whereas 74,127 were at different hospitals in Dhaka.
According to the DGHS data, 10,032 dengue patients are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country. A total of 1,59,897 patients have so far been released from hospitals across the country this year.
It also added Bangladesh recorded 179 dengue-related deaths in 2019, seven deaths in 2020, 105 deaths in 2021 and 281 deaths, the second highest deaths, in 2022. Meanwhile, experts said that Dengue positive cases have increased ten times and death three times between mid-September, 2022 and mid-September, 2023.
They said there are unplanned urbanization, industrialization and ancillary activities such as the construction of multi-storied buildings blocking waterways, dumping old cars and turning cities into mosquito sanctuaries.
