CCC polls: Campaign launched officially as symbol allocated

Aspirants have started electioneering as the symbols have been allocated among them ahead of Cumilla City Corporation (CCC) polls.

Supporters of the various mayor and councilor candidates brought out a procession after they received the symbol.

Fiver hopefuls are running the city’s mayoral race– Awami League nominated Arfanul Haque, Md. Rashedul Islam of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, independent candidate and the city BNP south joint general secretary Nizam Uddin and Cumilla Citizen Forum president Kamrul Hasan Babul.

Arfanul Haque got the boat symbol while Rashedul Islam got the hand-fan symbol, independent candidate Md. Monirul Haque got the table-watch symbol, Mohammed Nizam Uddin horse symbol and Kamrul Hasan the stag symbol.

Besides, election symbols were also distributed among 106 councilor aspirants and 36 reserved councilors.

Returning Officer Md. Shahedunnabi Chowdhury distributed the symbols at the district Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Friday.

Receiving the symbol Monirul Haque said, “This is a local government election. Symbol doesn’t matter here. Voters will cast their ballot based on the candidates’ behavior, their works.”

Claiming to accomplish 70 per cent of works the BNP leaders said, “If the election is held peacefully, I must win. The election commission has to ensure level playing field for that.”

Cumilla city AL joint general secretaries Abidur Rahman Jahangir and Atikullah Khokon received the boat symbol on behalf of the ruling party runner Arfanul Haque.
