Rajshahi witnesses its lowest temperature, people shivering

The temperature in Rajshahi went down to 7.5 degrees Celsius which is the lowest in the ongoing season recorded at 9:00 am, Saturday.

Generally, it is considered a moderate cold wave when the temperature remains around six to eight degrees Celsius. According to that, the moderate cold wave is running over the district.

 Meanwhile, people’s daily lives in Rajshahi are extremely affected by the cold wave. The sufferings of daily labours and working people are increasing as they have to go out of their houses in quest of their livelihood. In addition, the gatherings of cold-related patients are also going up in different hospitals.

Asgar Ali, a construction worker in Kadirganj area of Rajshahi city, said, “I have to come here to work even amid severe cold. It is difficult for us to work in the morning. But we have no other option. We have to come here for our livelihood.”

Masura Begum, who works as a maid in different houses, said, “It is so difficult to word dawn-to-dusk amid that kind of coldness as water does not remain touchable.”

Besides, primary and secondary schools in the area remain closed due to the low temperature. Nobody is getting out of their houses without any urgent cases.

Latifa Helen, senior observer of Rajshahi Meteorological Observatory, said, “The temperature in Rajshahi went down to 7.8 degrees Celsius on January 11. After that, it dropped to 7.5 degrees Celsius today (Saturday). This is the lowest temperature in the ongoing season. According to the forecast, a mild to moderate cold wave is likely to flow over the district for two or three more days.
