Mirpur stadium silent for one minute on Asim Jawad

A one-minute silence was observed at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur remembering Squadron Leader Asim Jawad, who died after a trainer fighter jet crashed into Karnaphuli River.

The fourth game of the five-match T20 series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe began at 6:00 pm in Mirpur on Friday.

Before starting the action of the game, players from both teams observed a one-minute silence staying in line in memory of slain pilot Asim Jawad.

Earlier, Asim and his co-pilot wing commander Sohan Hasan Khan were injured after a trainer fighter jet of Bangladesh Air Force YAK-130 crashed into the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram’s Patenga on Thursday morning. They were rescued and taken to Navy Hospital BNS Patenga where Squadron Leader Asim died while undergoing treatment.
