FE executive editor Shahiduzzaman passes away

Financial Express executive editor Shahiduzzaman Khan has passed away.

The 70-year-old breathed his last at 6:45pm on Sunday, the business daily said.

The veteran journalist was undergoing treatment at the Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Dhaka, according to his family and colleagues.

“Abbu [dad] has left us this evening, following cardiac arrest,” his daughter Shazia Shabnam told the newspaper.

She sought prayers for the departed soul of her beloved father.

Shahiduzzaman left behind two sons and a daughter and a host of relatives, friends, and colleagues to mourn his death.

He was admitted to the hospital on May 7 after he had developed a respiratory problem. He later tested positive for Covid-19.

Four days later, he was shifted to the ICU of the hospital as he needed ventilation support. According to his family, his health condition had remained unchanged since then.

Shahiduzzaman had been working with Financial Express since its inception in 1993 as its executive editor and news editor.

He also served as the acting editor of the newspaper for a certain period and also worked for The Daily Star and now defunct The Bangladesh Observer.

An English graduate from the University of Dhaka, Shahaduzzaman also studied at the International Institute of Journalism in Berlin.
