To further enhance the capacity of the law enforcement agencies, the government has taken a policy decision to procure two MI-171A-2 helicopters from Russia for Bangladesh on a Government-to-Government (G2G) basis. Two helicopters will be used for Bangladesh Police.

The decision was taken at the 28th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Wednesday, chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mostafa Kamal.

After the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Department Md. Shamsul Arefin told reporters in a virtual briefing that two new MI-171A2 helicopters will be purchased from JSC Russian Helicopters on a G2G basis.

The Mill Moscow Helicopter Plant under Russian Helicopters has developed this MI-171A 2 medium quality civilian passenger transport helicopter.

The highest quality MI-8/17 series capabilities have been attached to MI-171A2 helicopters. This is an improved version of the Teri MI-171A1 helicopter from the Ulan-UD aviation plant. This new helicopter has improved the structure and steering system as well as the main rotor and gear system.

Arefin said the meeting had partially approved the proposal to amend two sections of the existing import policy order 2015-18 sent by the Commerce Ministry. A section amendment to the proposal was not approved, it was asked to send it back to CCEA after further verification.
