Shakib-Nurul under observation and doubts for SA game

Due to injury, Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan are under observation before Bangladesh’s next ICC T20 World Cup Super 12s match against South Africa.

A decision is pending whether the duo will be available for Bangladesh’s next game, against South Africa Tuesday, in the Super 12s of the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh, who are already out of discussion for a semi-final spot after losing their first three Group 1 Super 12 matches against Sri Lanka, England, and West Indies, will play South Africa on October 2, followed by Australia two days later.

Shakib has a hamstring injury incurred during Bangladesh’s play against West Indies, while Nurul has an abdominal injury that has forced him to miss the Tigers’ match against the Caribbean side on Friday.

Bangladesh Cricket Board chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury, who is with the team in the UAE, informed that they will observe Shakib’s progress in the next couple of days.

“There are some issues with Shakib’s hamstring as he struggled during the game against the West Indies. We still have a couple of days’ time before the next game Tuesday so we are not willing to rush on it. Let’s see how he progresses in the next couple of days followed by the rest and we will observe him again after that,” Dr Debashish told in Dubai Saturday.

During a practice session prior to their Super 12 match against England, Nurul sustained the injury while batting against bowler Taskin Ahmed.

“Sohan will take complete rest for three days ( till 31st Oct) and will be assessed on 01 November and then the Medical Team will decide on his availability for the match against South Africa” the statement added.
