Rehana Maryam Noor’ wins Jury Grand Prize

Azmeri Haque Badhan, the lead actress of the film ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ directed by Abdullah Mohammad Saad has won the best actress award at 14th Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

Meanwhile, The film’s director Abdullah Mohammad Saad was awarded the second place, or Jury Grand Prizes, jointly with Leah Purcell for her debut feature ‘The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson’.

Japan’s Hamaguchi Ryusuke earned double honours on Thursday at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. His ‘Drive My Car’ was named best film, while he shared the best screenplay award with the film’s co-writer Oe Takamasa, Variety magazine reported.

Badhan has announced the good news on her Facebook profile today.

The list of winners was announced on Thursday at the 14th edition of APSA in Queensland, The ceremony was streamed across the globe.

‘I feel extremely happy and delighted to win this prestigious award. The film has brought a huge honour for the country,’ Azmeri Haque Badhon told .

The film will be released at twelve cinemas across Bangladesh tomorrow. In Dhaka, the film will be released at cinemas namely Star Cineplex branches at Bashundhara City and Mirpur, Blockbuster Cinemas, Shyamoli Cinema, Sena Auditorium and Madhumita. Besides, the film will be released at leading cinemas in Chattogram, Narayanganj and Bogura.

Australia. A total of 36 films from 25 Asia Pacific countries took part there. Apart from Bandhan, four more actresses from four countries were nominated in this category.

‘Rehana Maryam Noor’s storyline narrates the tale of the eponymous private medical college teacher who becomes the witness to an unexpected incident while leaving the college one day. Being awestruck with the incident, Noor starts to protest against the incident and the patriarchal system, as the story moves forward.

The film has also made its entry into the race for the Oscars as Bangladesh’s submission in the ‘Best International Feature Film Category’.

Along with Badhon, the ensemble cast of ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ includes Saberi Alam, Afia Zahin, Kazi Sami Hasan, Afia Tabassum and Yasir Al Haque.
