National athletics concludes with Navy’s domination

Bangladesh Navy emerged champions in the Shaheed Sheikh Kamal 45th National Athletics competition that concluded today (Wednesday) at Bangladesh Army Stadium in the city.

Navy secured a total of 49 medals, including 22 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals while Bangladesh Army finished runners-up with 42 medals including 11 gold, 19 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Bangladesh Air Force stand at third position it the table with nine medals including three gold, one silver and five bronze medals.

One last day of three-day meet, Rinki Biswas of Bangladesh Navy set the new national record in the women’s 3,000 meters race clocking 10:30.30 seconds erasing her won previous mark of 10:43.30 seconds she made last year.

Meanwhile, Rakibul Islam of Bangladesh Navy won gold in the men’s 200 meter sprint. He also won gold and silver in 4*100 meters relay race and 100 meters sprint respectively.

Besides, fastest woman Sumiya Dewan of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan won gold in the 200m sprint with a time of 25.22 seconds on the last day of the competition.

Asif Biswas (men’s) and Shamsunnahar Rotna (women’s) of Bangladesh Navy were adjudged the best payers of the competition.

Bangladesh Athletics Federation’s vice president and Lakshmipur district Awami league’s general secretary Nuruddin Chowdhury Noyon, MP, was the chief guest on the closing day of the competition and distributed the prizes.
