Shakib second cricketer to achieve the double of 5000 runs, 400 wickets in T20s

Bangladesh premier all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has become the second player to bag 400 wickets and score more than 5000 runs in T20.

Shakib earned the feat during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) when he dismissed Mahmudullah Riyad, who was caught at the cover by Dwyane Bravo.

The only other player to have reached double in T20 is West Indies DJ Bravo, who took 555 wickets in 514 matches and scored 6672 runs. While Shakib recorded 400 wickets with 5610 runs in 353 matches.

Shakib-led Fortune Barishal though lost the match by four wickets, the captain needed one wicket to reach the milestone and he duly did that.

To make the feat sweeter, he kept his teammate Dwayne Bravo witnessed of the achievement. Bravo in fact was the lone member of this high profile club of 5000 runs and 400 wickets. Now he got a member alongside him to savour.

Shakib’s feat came when he had Dhaka captain Mahmudullah caught by Bravo for 47. When Mahmudullah was dismissed, Dhaka was almost on the verge of the victory by leveling the score.

Shakib also became the fourth bowler in T20 cricket to take 400 wickets. The star allrounder now has 5610 runs and 400 wickets under his belt in 353 matches. Bravo has 6672 runs and 555 wickets in 514 matches.

Shakib made his debut in 2006 with Bangladesh’s first T20I against Zimbabwe. The left-arm spinner took the wicket of Shaun Williams in that match.

Apart from playing for the Bangladesh team, Shakib has donned the jersey of several franchises in the Indian T20 League and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The southpaw also took part in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Big Bash.
