Ruthlss Dhaka end Comilla’s winning streak in BPL

Skipper Mahmudullah Riyad slammed a brutal 41 ball-70 not out as Minister Group Dhaka ended Comilla Victorians’ winning run in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), crushing them by 50 runs at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today.

Put into bat first, Dhaka compiled a hefty 181-6 after which their bowlers bowled well in tandem to wrap up Comilla for 131 in 17.3 overs.

Despite the defeat, Comilla still topped the point table with six points from four matches. Minister Group Dhaka also had six points, playing six matches but they are at the second spot by virtue of net-run-rate.

Dhaka lost Mohammad Shahzad early in the innings but that hardly could dent their mood as Tamim Iqbal came up with fire yet again. His 35 ball-46, studded with two fours and three sixes set the platform for the side.

Riyad who smote three fours and four sixes in his 70 not out indeed utilized the platform set by Tamim despite the wickets tumbling around him. The other notable scorer was Imran Uzzaman who made 15 while Andre Russell scored 11.

Tanvir Islam was the most successful bowler for Comilla with 2-36 while Mustafizur Rahman, Shohidul Islam and Karim Janat took one wicket apiece.

Dhaka bowlers kept Comilla batters in cornered position right from the start, making their life hard for rotating the scoreboard rapidly, which was needed in the chase of a big total.

Only opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy had some answers against the highly disciplined attack.  Rubel Hossain who ended with just one wicket or five runs from his two overs, gave the initial breakthrough, removing Liton Das for a duck in the third ball.

Dhaka could never recover from that setback despite Joy making 46 off 30 with eight fours. Captain Imrul Kayes hit 23 ball-28 but was dismissed at a moment when his presence was badly needed.

Andre Russell took 3-17 but Ebadot Hossain and Qais Ahmed bowled immaculately to leave Comilla in tatters. Both of them scalped two wickets apiece, ripping through the Comilla’s middle order.
