Zayed Khan will remain in general secretary post: HC

Film actress Nipun Akter was sworn in as the general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association yesterday (Sunday). After the swearing-in ceremony, Misa Sawdagar welcomed Kanchan-Nipun with a garland at the office of the association. Later, they sit in the designated chair and were captured on camera with smiling faces.

However, today, the High Court has postponed the decision to declare the actress as the general secretary. At the same time, the court has issued a one-week rule asking why the decision to reject Zayed Khan’s candidature would not be invalid.

In that case, Zayed Khan will remain in the general secretary post.

Earlier in the morning, Zayed Khan filed a petition in the High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman challenging the validity of the decision to reject the candidature of general secretary in the election of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association.

Zayed Khan’s lawyer Nahid Sultana Juthi confirmed the matter to the media.

Zayed Khan’s candidature for the post of general secretary was rejected in the preliminary results of the 2022-24 election of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association. As a result, he has to lose his position.

Sohanur Rahman Sohan, the chairman of the Election Appellate Board, announced the decision after a meeting on Saturday (February 5) evening. At the same time, the actress Nipun was declared the uncontested winner.

The election of the Film Artistes’ Association was held on January 28 where Zayed Khan won the preliminary results.
