Dhaka Union of Journalists election tomorrow

A biennial election of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) will be held at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here tomorrow (Tuesday, 29th March).

A total of 66 candidates  are contesting for 21 posts.

The vote casting will begin from 9:00am and it will continue till 6.00 pm without any interruption.

The three declared councils are contesting in the DUJ elections this time. A total of 61 candidates are contesting in Quddus Afrad-Gazi Zahirul Islam Panel, Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu-Akhtar Hossain Panel, Sohail Haider Chowdhury-Mehedi Hasan Panel. Besides, there are 10 independent candidates.in this year’s DUJ election.

Editor of News Now Bangla and senior journalist Shamima Akter (Dola) is contesting for the post of joint editor in  DUJ election.

The total number of voters in this election is 2,964. Voters have to come to the polling station in accordance with the proper hygiene rules during the coronation period.

In this regard, the Election Management Committee has informed that the elderly, women and sick voters will get priority in voting. During the voting, the committee has given 14 rules of conduct including restrictions on entry of foreigners in the Press Club premises, non-bringing of mobile phones in the polling station, identity card and NID.

A six-member election management committee headed by senior journalist Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul will conduct the election in DUJ this time.

In the last election of DUJ on 29 February 2020, Quddus Afrad got 750 votes for the post of chairman and Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu got 485 votes for the post of general secretary. Both were selected from the same panel.
